Canadian country artist Elyse Saunders latest single “Feel You Leaving” is a great record about letting go of what’s in the past and looking to what the future has in store. It’s a powerful song that came to Elyse in the strangest of ways.
“Inspiration can strike in the most amazing ways,” Elyse explains, “and this song just so happened to start in a dream. I woke up singing the soaring melody and then the words, ‘let these waves crash over me, wash away our memories’. I didn’t want to lose it,” she continues, “so I recorded the idea in my phone, took it to my co-writers and we created ‘Feel You Leaving’. It is a pretty fitting first new release, […] Dreams can tell us a lot about what we’re going through and this song needed to come out.”
The melody and vibe of the song is perfect for Summer nights sitting on the porch, or at a bonfire. It’s a song that makes you think and reflect on the past, but also leaves you feeling hopeful for what’s to come in the future.
“Feel You Leaving” Music Video
“Feel You Leaving”, by Elyse Saunders, was released earlier this year, but the music video was published just recently. The music video follows the same theme of being a perfect Summer song! It takes place on the beach at dusk. It follows Elyse as she tells the story of the song, with cutaways of her with a mystery man on the beach.
What’s not clear, and probably on purpose, is whether this is the person she is singing about in the song. Is it the guy “droppin all the one-word answers” that she sings about in the song? Or maybe this mystery man is the hopeful look to the future – the guy she ends up with. Either way, these two leave you wondering throughout the entire video, and it adds a layer of depth to the video which is really cute.
Side note – where do you think this beach is? It looks like it would be such an amazing day-trip destination.
