Greg Rider’s Latest Single Ain’t No “Accident”

Greg Rider's New Single Accident

Earlier this summer we introduced you to emerging country artist Greg Rider. He’s back with a song called “Accident” that’s all about an awkward and unexpected second date.

“Accident” is a really fun song that gets your head bobbing and features Greg’s songwriting and vocal talents. But it’s the lyrics that really stand out in this single. It’s all about an accidental second date 4 years after the first. This got us wondering what the story was behind the lyrics … we had to know more about the story.

“This song came to life after a date in Nashville,” Rider recalls. “It started as an innocent online dating match with a Canadian girl, and it turned into a hilarious coincidence… Or ‘Accident.’”

This is where it gets awkward … Greg met up with this girl — a fellow songwriter — and after grabbing a drink and getting to know one another, she insisted he looked familiar. “She was from Alberta, and I was from Ontario,” he explains. “I was confident I’d never met her before. But then she asked, ‘did you ever live in Montreal?’ and my eyes went wide. She said, ‘oh my God, are you Greg from Montreal?! We went on a date and I still talk about that night with my friends!’”

“I was in utter shock, and couldn’t believe what she was saying. I felt horrible because I didn’t remember it at all. She had a different hair colour back then, and I was 22 and a club promoter, so I met quite a few girls that summer, but … I still felt like a horrible person!”

Can you imagine?!

Four years later, they met up in a different country. Greg continued, “I wondered, was this a huge coincidence? Why am I meeting this girl again? Was it meant to happen? Or is this more of an ‘Accident’?”

Needless to say, it didn’t work out between these two, but they actually remain friends today. But it truly is the story that great country songs are made of.

Accident is a great single that you’re going to want to add to your playlists. Take a listen below!

Lyrics To “Accident” By Greg Rider

I Told my mom it was an accident
When I got kicked out of math class
Had every little answer to that test
Written on my wrist

I told you it was an accident
When I bumped into you and spilt your glass
You got mad but I turned that
Into our first dance

But we moved too fast
We couldn’t make it last
But we lost touch and
I thought that was that

4 years later you’re here tonight
Run down bar on the west side
New hair color, same color eyes
I’m making you blush you’re making me laugh
We’re acting like time hasn’t passed
Things like this don’t happen just like that
It ain’t by happenstance, coincidence, this second chance
It ain’t by accident
No it ain’t by accident

I told my dad it was an accident
When I had my first car crash
No he came outta nowhere
No sir I wasn’t going too fast

You told your friends it was an accident
That boy from the club that summer romance
I was what it was, wouldn’t call it love
had to put it in the past

Because we moved too fast
We couldn’t make it last
But we lost touch and
I thought that was that

4 years later you’re here tonight
Run down bar on the west side
New hair color, same color eyes
I’m making you blush, you’re making me laugh
We’re acting like time hasn’t passed
Things like this don’t happen just like that
It ain’t by happenstance, coincidence, this second chance
It ain’t by accident
No it ain’t by accident

But we moved too fast
We couldn’t make it last
But we lost touch and
I thought that was that

4 years later you’re here tonight
Run down bar on the west side
New hair color, but same color eyes
I’m making you blush, you’re making me laugh
We’re acting like time hasn’t passed
Things like this don’t happen just like that
It ain’t by happenstance, coincidence, this second chance
It ain’t by accident
No it ain’t by accident

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
