Andrew Frelick comes from a community not too far from from Cavendish, so the opportunity to play this festival is a bit like a home-coming for this great artist.

Cavendish Beach Music Festival in PEI has a reputation to be one of the most fun festivals in Canada. PEI is such a great place to visit, and then when you mix it with country music, and killer lineup, you know it’s going to be a great time. It was so great to catch up with Andrew before the festival. Here’s the full interview.

Interview with Andrew Frelick About the 2019 Cavendish Beach Music Festival

Front Porch: Hi Andrew! Welcome to the Front Porch – we’re SO happy that you could join us up here on the porch. If you don’t mind, it would be great if you could introduce yourself to our audience.

Andrew Frelick: Sure thing – I am a country artist born and raised on the East Coast in Nova Scotia. I have released between 2015-2018, 3 Nashville recorded EP’s and am only days from releasing my 2019 country music single and music video “Heads Up”. I truly feel this is some of my best work to date and such a great co-write with my friend and frequent writing partner Doug Folkins.

FP: It must feel great to be playing Cavendish Beach Music Festival, one of Canada’s biggest music festivals. What’s going through your mind as you prepare for this big show?

AF: It does feel great yes and I have two sets on two different stages is going to make the experience even more so. Until the day of, I think for myself and the guys in the band its all about preparation.  The right set list, the right covers, the right presentation etc…we are working really hard on this! We want to ensure anyone hearing us for the first time will enjoy themselves and then look my music up on music services and social media .

FP: You’re from the East Coast, not too far from PEI. Are your friends and family going to be there?

AF: Definitely hope to see a lot of familiar faces there yes! Equally important also, is the faces we hope to see and meet.

FP: What inspires you, or gets you in the mood/mindset to write and create?

AF: I think much the same as any writer/artist. It can be a life experience, or it can be a thought, idea, or even something someone says that triggers inspiration.

FP: The country music genre has really evolved in the past few years, and has become much more approachable to the average listener – blending the lines of pop and country, or country and rock. What do you think about that?

AF: I really love that and I don’t really understand what all the fuss is about sometimes. I grew up on traditional country music and love it still as much as I did then. That being said that isn’t the only genre of music I like and I think listeners nowadays are a lot like that in thinking. They want variety and listen to variety. Country now has expanded into many sub genres, and in my opinion is giving listeners the variety they are looking for. At its core though, no matter which of the sub genres, it remains country with its story telling lyrics, its harmonies, its subject matter, instrumentation etc. Traditional country is one of these sub genres, and no one is trying to say that The Backstreet Boys are making music that sounds like Waylon or Willie.  Another example is The Eagles…probably my favourite band of all time…played everything from bluegrass to rock…and people love it! I know I do!

FP: And really quickly, give us your top 5 songs that you are really into right now?

AF: Hmm okay here goes…

  1. Whiskey Glasses – Morgan Wallen
  2. Beer Never Broke My Heart – Luke Combs
  3. Good As You – Kane Brown
  4. Signed, Sober You – HARDY
  5. …….. Heads Up – Andrew Frelick ( couldn’t help myself…brand new release I hope people love as much as I do)

All great choices! And definitely, everyone should check out your new single! Thanks so much, we can’t wait to see you at Cavendish Beach!

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
