Canadian roots band Johnson Crook have debuted the music video for their latest single “Dear Me”. This music video takes us through a compelling story that perfectly compliments and augments the song.
The song itself is a surprising, but fantastic change of pace for this talented group of men from Toronto. It’s upbeat, with a fantastic story, great harmonies, and an incredibly catchy hook. The song starts with guitars that pull you in and compel you to listen to the lyrics. Then, by the first chorus, the drums kick in with a rolling thunderous beat that gets your toes tapping, and keeps you listening to the rest of the song – on repeat.
Noel Johnson wrote this song on the way to Americanafest in Nashville while thinking of his newborn son back home. [“Dear Me” is] a letter to your future self,” Noel says about the song’s meaning. “I started with the idea of how decisions you make at certain times in your life can drastically affect your future,” Noel adds. “I finished it back in Toronto and played it for a few people who really seemed to connect to it… We’re really excited about how it turned out.”
Music Video for “Dear Me” by Johnson Crook
The music video for “Dear Me” is a perfect compliment to the single. Not only does it tell a great story, but it doesn’t distract from the song – it actually augments the message and meaning of the song. The video shows an older version of one of the guys in the band looking back on his life through pictures and flashbacks of how the band started. Essentially, every montage in this music video is about how music, and the guys in the band, helped shaped his life.
It’s a really fascinating music video.
About Johnson Crook
Since Noel and bassist Jared Craig teamed up with brothers Nathan and Trevor Crook (lead guitar and drums respectively), breaking onto the scene in 2016 with the song “Minnedosa”—an ode to the Crook brothers’ Manitoba hometown—Johnson Crook has become one of the most powerful live acts in Canadian roots music. Their harmonies are reminiscent of artists such as the Eagles and Old Dominion.
They are signed with Toronto-based record label Coalition Music. They recorded The Album with acclaimed producer Bill Bell (Jason Mraz, Justin Nozuka, Tom Cochrane), who enlisted Tom Cochrane for a guest appearance. From there, they hit the road in earnest across North America, playing massive outdoor festivals such as Boots & Hearts, Legion halls, and everything in between.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
