“Eat Drink Remarry” is the first official single from Brittany since her appearance on NBCs The Voice in 2016.
This song is about how you can find love more than once, that life doesn’t always turn out the way we planned, and that’s ok! Cowritten with Emil Reid, “Eat Drink Remarry” is motivated by a recent breakup, where she found new meaning in an old song she started writing a while ago.
It’s a fantastic song!

We were first introduced to Brittany Kennell back in 2016 when she appeared on NBCs The Voice. She was the first Canadian to ever appear on the show. Brittany auditioned for the show as a way to improve her one-on-one meetings with publishing companies. She never expected to get past the blind auditions. She managed to make it through with Blake Shelton and last to the knockout round.
We’re so happy to hear some new music from Brittany!
We had the privilege of connecting with Brittany to talk about her new music and life. It was a really great conversation. But before we get to the interview, take a listen to her single “Eat Drink Remarry”.

Interview With Brittany Kennell
Front Porch Music: Brittany – Welcome to the Front Porch! We’re so happy to have you join us. Since this is your first time on the Porch, why don’t you tell us a little about yourself?
Brittany Kennell: Thank you for having me!!
I’m a country artist from, and based in, Montreal after many years in Nashville, TN. I love to write music, I’m a book nerd and get to sing for my beloved hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens.
Front Porch Music: Your latest single “Eat, Drink, Remarry” was recently featured on Front Porch Music as a Song of the Day. The single seemed to really resonate with our audience! Tell us about the single and the inspiration behind it.
Brittany Kennell: Thank you so much for featuring it and I’m SO happy to hear your audience resonated with it! As an artist that is one of my biggest goals; to connect and relate to my audience.
I wrote this song with country artist Emily Reid, a few years ago based off the title. I read it in a book and thought “What a fun concept!” (Without realizing that I would one day relate to it) The song sat in my phone for many years until I went through my own big break up, moved home to Montreal and slowly started to get back into recording music.
I absolutely loved the message behind it because we are so often forced to make decisions from societal pressures when really, life is short and we deserve to make choices on what will make us happiest. It’s okay if it doesn’t work out, love will find you again!
I found peace in that song and I hope it brings light to others who have experienced something similar.
Front Porch Music: 4 years ago in 2016, you auditioned for the show The Voice and became the first and only Canadian to appear on the show. I’m sure you’re getting tired of talking about it, but what was that moment like walking out on stage and singing to the backs of 4 A-List celebrities? And then how it felt to have Blake Shelton push his button.
Brittany Kennell: Honestly, I love getting to chat about it because it reminds that it actually happened – Haha!
It feels long ago now but even at the time it was like “Is this real life?!” I was so focused on the performance that I really didn’t give myself time to acknowledge where I actually was and who I was singing for until the end of the song. I know how powerful nerves can be so my goal was to just focus on putting on a great performance.
When Blake pushed his button I had to look away and at the audience to stay on track just in case he was like “Never mind” *Chair swerves back around* haha! No, but all in all it was an incredible experience!
Front Porch Music: You’ve had a long and interesting road to your first official single: moving to the US, being on The Voice, a breakup, and moving back to Canada – How do you think the ups and down’s have helped shaped your creative process as an artist?
Brittany Kennell: It’s been a wild ride!
During those times, it was hard to see the bigger picture but now I can clearly step back and see they were all stepping stones to where I am now. Each little win or small set back has shaped and molded me into being a stronger artist. My creative process has remained quite steady through my journey however, the highs and lows have definitely had a hand in what comes out of the creative process.
Now, more than ever am I able to fight for the music I want to make. I definitely feel more confident in who I am all around.
Front Porch Music: Over the past couple of years, there has been more pressure for gender parity and better representation on radio stations, music festivals, and the country industry as a whole. What are your thoughts here and what do you think needs to be done to increase representation in the country industry?
Brittany Kennell: I was faced many times with “We are not signing women right now” or “Good luck, no company is taking on women” But I never let that stop me and I know I’m not the only woman that’s like that – we are strong, relentless and persistent.
I know it’s not an overnight change, but we can already see how the fight is starting to take shape. Every mention of it, share on social media, conversation is a brick being pulled down from the wall to equal play.
To increase representation, we need the support and demand. We need the support from our peers (Artists, Bookers, Industry) and the demand from our fans (streams, shares, concerts) Either way, we’ll keep showing up!
Front Porch Music: Right now, we’re all stuck at home trying to do our part to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. What are you doing to pass the time while practicing social distancing?
Brittany Kennell: I am mainly working full time during the week which is keeping me busy! I’ve taken on long distance running to stay healthy, painting and baking to stay creative, and FaceTime’s with the family to stay sane haha!
Of course, listening to and playing a LOT of music too so I’m ready to hit the ground running when all is safe to do so.
