Emily Clair Shares Her Personal New Single “The Sobering Truth”

Earlier this year, we had the privilege of introducing you to Canadian country artist Emily Clair. Today, we’re so excited to have the chance to share her brand new single “The Sobering Truth”.

“The Sobering Truth” is another great single for this Ontario artist. It’s an incredibly beautiful song that wonderfully showcases the vocal and lyrical talents of Emily Clair. The melody may be beautiful, but the lyrics are what really gets you. It’s a very heavy song that clearly comes from a very personal place for Emily. When you’re listening to this song, it almost stops you in your tracks – it commands your full attention.

“This song has two meanings,” Emily explains to us. “It’s about alcoholism. It’s a true story that I have lived in my past. It is also about waking up and realizing that two people shouldn’t be together. They are together still for all the wrong reasons, but too afraid and comfortable to leave what they have. I feel this is something many people face in relationships,” she continues, “but don’t want to admit.”

“The Sobering Truth” is a great follow-up single to “Me or the Whiskey”.  It’s clear from both of these records that Emily Clair is a talent to watch. She has the ability to make you deeply connect with a song. She’s a true storyteller, able to make you feel exactly what she’s feeling. We can’t wait to hear what’s next for Emily.

Lyrics to “The Sobering Truth”

You don’t want me and
I don’t want you
we’re stuck in the old
And afraid of the new

Trying to drown doubt
With a bottle of booze
But we’re drowning
In fake “I love you’s”

So put your drink down
We’ll spill it all out
There’s no more dodging the truth
It’s been coming around
With every ounce
There’s only one thing left to do
Nothing to lose
It’s nothing new
It’s Time for us to face the sobering truth
the sobering truth

Looks like you’ve had
A drink or two
Stumblin into
our bedroom

When you touch me do
You feel it too
It’s not making love
If I can’t even look at you

So put your drink down
We’ll spill it all out
There’s no more dodging the truth
It’s been coming around
With every ounce
There’s only one thing left to do
Nothing to lose
It’s nothing new
It’s Time for us to face the sobering truth
the sobering truth

Truth is this should hurt but it don’t
Truth is you think I’ll come back but I won’t
Truth is something I already knew
Truth might hurt but I don’t love you

So put your drink down
We’ll spill it all out
There’s no more dodging the truth
It’s been coming around
With every ounce
There’s only one thing left to do
Nothing to lose
It’s nothing new
It’s Time for us to face the sobering truth
the sobering truth

the sobering truth

yeah the sobering truth

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
