Winnipeg-based group Petric released their latest single, “If I Was Your Man” in early November.
With Petric, we typically get solid lyrics, hopeful romanticism, and up tempo tracks for riding with the windows down. Songs like “18 Ends”, “Deja Vu”, and “Single Problem” are catchy and get your feet tapping. Their latest release “If I Was Your Man” isn’t what we’re used to, but it’s a great side to see in them.
“If I Was Your Man” is a different side of Petric. Soulful, piano-driven, and longing are themes that stand out in their latest single. “If I Was Your Man” is a ballad, with the story sharing the life of a friend who’s in the wrong relationship. As the friend who wants to be with her, it’s the story of how she would be treated better if she were with him, as he imagines how much better his life would be if they were together.

Lyrics To “If I Was Your Man” By Petric
Girl, there’d be a smile on your face
Today would have been a perfect day
If I was your man
The world would be a better place
Every second with you I wouldn’t waste
If I was your man
You wouldn’t be showing up here at two am on my doorstep crying
You wouldn’t keep turning to me every time he don’t understand
And asking me to hold you
Saying that it’s over
You wouldn’t be leaving here lying
If I was your man
You wouldn’t have to walk around town
Pretending you and him are gonna work it out
If I was your man
If we took a chance now with you in my arms
We’d only fall in love never fall apart
Girl, I’d always be your man
You wouldn’t be showing up here at two am on my doorstep crying
You wouldn’t keep turning to me every time he don’t understand
And asking me to hold you
Saying that it’s over
You wouldn’t be leaving here lying
If I was your man
Why can’t it be us
Why can’t it be me
Baby why can’t you see
Girl, there’d be a smile on your face
Today would have been a perfect day
You wouldn’t be showing up here at two am on my doorstep crying
You wouldn’t keep turning to me every time he don’t understand
And asking me to hold you
Saying that it’s over
You wouldn’t be leaving here lying
If I was your man
If I was your man
If I was your man
In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
