We’re excited for this one … Mackenzie Leigh Meyer has released a brand new single called “Before You”. We’re so proud to be able to premiere the music video for this single.
“Before You” is a beautiful song! It’s a heartfelt love ballad that perfectly showcases Mackenzie’s songwriting skills, and highlights her subtle and unique vocals. The lyrics flow poetically and tell a story that so many of us can relate to.
“This song is my take on finding your soulmate” she says. “When you’re with the right person, they make everything better without seemingly doing anything. It’s not about the grand gestures. Love is in the little things”
“Before You” follows on the heels of her debut EP Dive Bar Diva, which landed her a nomination for CMA Ontario “Roots Artist of the Year” in 2019.
Mackenzie Leigh Meyer is releasing a brand new music video to accompany this release, and we are so excited to be able to exclusively premiere this one.
The music video was filmed in Ancaster, ON at Meyer’s parents house, and features a couple of cameos from from some people close to Mackenzie. The soul mate character is Mackenzie’s real-life boyfriend Jeff Brown (who is the guitarist for The Washboard Union). And the bad ex-boyfriend is played by Nicole Rayy’s boyfriend Damon Ironstone.

Lyrics To “Before You”By Mackenzie Leigh Meyer
You’re on the phone saying you’re headed home
Even though I know you’re on the way
The food on the stove used to get cold
He was always coming home late
That’s all I knew of love
Before you came
Was black flies not butterflies
Burs not bouquets
Storms without rainbows just rain
Where true love’s a game only fools care to play
Til someone, somewhere, someday
Makes everything, and nothing
Change
I’m not used to a guy who’s grateful for the time
We’re cleaning up the house or paying rent
The fear of getting by
The daily stress of life
With you it all just seems so different
All that I knew of love
Before you came
Was black flies not butterflies
Burs not bouquets
Storms without rainbows just rain
Where true love’s a game only fools care to play
Til someone, somewhere, someday
Makes everything, and nothing
Change
All that it takes is a little patience and faith
To find the one who’ll change
Black flies to butterflies
Burs to bouquets
Who’ll bring you the sun in a whole lot of rain
When true love’s a game only fools care to play
Someone, somewhere, someday
Will make everything, and nothing
Makes everything, and nothing
Makes everything, and nothing
Change
In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
