Sons of Daughters released “Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long” in late 2018. The duo, native to Vancouver came across a new country hits playlist, and of course, through my headphones recently. Prior this this however, they auditioned for CTV’s The Launch with “Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long”, along with another track, “Walking Away”. While at the time, judges thought the song was a B- at best, it’s caught my attention, and that of listeners across the country.
Chrystal Leigh and Jimmy Thow make up the duo and are paving their way in country music with a traditionally rooted, yet contemporary sound. They fell into the genre when they moved to Nashville and began writing and developing as artists together.
“Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long” spotlights their equally talented vocals, and really shows us how well their voices blend together. They share the lead in such a natural way that shines through in this song. The pieces just fit together; their voices were made to go hand in hand. While the duo is a match made in country music heaven, they’re also excellent performers. Watching them sing together is captivating in a way you just can’t look away from.
Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long tells the story of two people meeting at a bar to commiserate in their heartbreak and hit off. They share a mutual understanding of rebounding from ex-lovers. In order to prove the exes wrong, they keep getting closer, looking to get over their heartbreak and move on quickly. The convenience of two people meeting in a bar, getting drunk, and forgetting about their exes is a story artists from many genres like to run with so it’s nothing new there. However, delivering that same story for the millionth time in a way that catches people’s attention, makes listeners gravitate toward the story, and genuinely enjoy the song is something they can tip their hats to. If you’re going to sing what everyone else is singing, as its something many people can relate to, you have to do it in your own way.
Sons of Daughters have captured our ears with “Ain’t Gonna Be Lonely Long” not only for it’s easy, relatable story and unique, charming beat, but their undeniable vocal chemistry.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
