Owen Barney’s Debut Single “Letting Go”

Owen Barney's new single Letting Go

Owen Barney is a new face to Canadian Country music. The young up and coming singer-songwriter released his first single “Letting Go in October of 2018 and caught the ears of listeners across the nation.

“Letting Go” has over one million streams on streaming services and sky-rocketed the young musician’s popularity and notoriety in country music. I first heard the song on Apple Music’s Breaking Country playlist, featuring new music from country singers across North America.

“Letting Go” introduces Owen Barney as a powerful, developed vocal talent and musician. Citing influences from traditional rock artists and country superstars like Eric Church and Jason Aldean, “Letting Go” is a contemporary country song, with evidence of that rock influence in the heavy electric guitar.

The story behind “Letting Go” is a breakup from a woman who doesn’t appreciate what she has. While the story may be familiar to many, the teen does a good job of making us forget that it is indeed a teen pouring their heart out. Barney’s maturity and natural talent as a performer allows him to be a storyteller so young in his career.

I had a chance to catch “Letting Go” live in January at the New Hot Nashville Showcase, where Owen Barney opened for East Adelaide and Adam Hambrick. As a young performer, Barney stood right up with the seasoned performers, and surprisingly, much of the crowd sang along to “Letting Go”.

We can’t wait to see what 2019 has in store for Owen Barney, including Boots and Hearts Music Festival.

“Letting Go” can also be found on Owen Barney’s three-part release titled Home.

Lyrics to “Letting Go” by Owen Barney

What are we still doing here
Seems like you’ve been switching gears
It was all of those damn good times
Now it’s all lies and endless fights
No more putting me down, I’m moving on now
You shoulda seen it coming, ‘cause I was nothing to you at all

I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh
Don’t give a damn what you’re doing tonight
Not a thought of you on my mind
Just so you know-oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go

I’ll be here not thinkin’ ‘bout you
Shut down my phone just to help me through
‘Cause I don’t wanna see your name
Coming up again and again
I won’t be holding on to those pictures of you
There’s no looking back
And I’ll find somebody who’s gonna love me
Like you never did

I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh
Don’t give a damn what you’re doing tonight
Not a thought of you on my mind
Just so you know-oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go

One day when you’re looking back
You’ll realize what you had
But, he’ll be so far gone
On that moving on

Oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh-oh
Don’t give a damn what you’re doing tonight
Not a thought of you on my mind
Just so you know-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh-oh
I’m letting go-oh-oh-oh-oh
(I’m letting go, I’m letting go)

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
