In a heartfelt celebration of their late mother Flo’s memory, Canadian country duo The Reklaws just kicked off an amazing initiative for youth mental health.
At their “YEE HAW Fun-Raiser” event in Toronto, the siblings presented a whopping $350,000 cheque to Kids Help Phone, launching the “Flo Walker Stardust Fund,” which would have been her 60th birthday.
PURE Country’s Shannon Ella hosted the evening with an open conversation about mental health, followed by The Reklaws lighting up the stage with an energetic live show at RendezViews in Toronto.
“This donation is going to change lives,” Jenna and Stuart Walker shared, fighting back tears. “We felt mom everywhere Friday night.”
About The Donations And Kids Help Phone
This massive donation came together through the generous support of family, friends, and fans.
A game-changing contribution from Craig Senyk Initiatives, who matched up to $150K, along with various partners stepping up to support the cause, made the impressive total possible.
Since losing their mom unexpectedly in 2022, The Reklaws haven’t shied away from talking about mental health. Now, they’re putting their platform to work.
The new fund will support Kids Help Phone’s Peer-to-Peer Community – a safe online space where young people can connect with others facing similar challenges. It’s a judgment-free zone where youth can share their experiences and access support 24/7.
You can still donate to the fund and learn more about it on The Reklaws website.
The Big Picture
This isn’t just about a donation – it’s about changing the conversation around mental health in Canada. With Kids Help Phone being the only 24/7 e-mental health service for young Canadians, The Reklaws are making sure more kids have a safe space to “Feel Out Loud” when they need it most.
A big shoutout goes to the sponsors who helped make this event happen, including Montana’s BBQ & Bar, Hot Country 88.5, Live Nation, and many more. The Walker family also gave a heartfelt thanks to The Coping Centre in Cambridge for their years of support.
