Interview With Country Artist Josh David

Front Porch: Thanks so much for joining us up here on the Front Porch Josh! We’re so thrilled to be able to introduce you to our audience. Since this is your first time joining us on the Porch, why don’t you tell us a bit about yourself?

Josh David: Thanks for having me! I’m a country singer-songwriter based out of Kitchener ON. I’ve been singing since I was about 4 years old. Started performing live shows when I was 8 and wrote my first song when I was around the age of 11. Now I’m lucky enough to get to live my dream every day of performing and writing songs for others.

Front Porch: You have your debut single “Safe Place to Break” released. It’s a really great song that features your awesome vocals and songwriting. Where did you get the inspiration for this song?

Josh David: Well Jeff Johnson, Dane Frede and myself first got together a couple years ago. We had this song title come to the table “Safe Place to Break”. I knew instantly that this was going to be a song people would be able to really relate to in some fashion. Everyone has that special thing or place or person that we all run to when times are getting hard. We all have our safe place to break. Mine being God and my mom. That’s where the inspiration came from when we were all writing this song together.

Front Porch: Like we said, it’s a fantastic debut single. What was the recording process like?

Josh David: I had the pleasure of working with Jeff Johnson on this song as both producer and co-writer. He made it an extremely enjoyable experience and of course with recording comes long hours in the studio. But It’s all apart of the experience. I’m always insanely excited going into the studio.

Front Porch: Your voice is so rich and very unique. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

Josh David: My inspiration comes from a bunch of various artists I’ve listened to over the years. Such as Garth Brooks, Chris Young, Sam Cooke, and Wilson Pickett the list goes on and on. All of my musical inspirations over the years have shaped me into the artist and singer I am today.

Front Porch: We’ve read that you have been performing more than 100 shows a year — Is that true!? Where does this work ethic and determination come from?

Josh David: It is indeed true. My mom is my biggest role model in my life. I have always admired her work ethic and her determination. I think just watching her over the years gave me a clear sense of if you want to get better at what you do then simply have to do it. So with every single gig I’ve ever done, all the nights performing until 2 am and then having to wake up for school by 7:00AM I knew it was all leading me in the right direction.

Front Porch: And quickly – what are the top songs you can’t stop listening to right now?

Josh David: Oh gosh there’s a lot haha. A few off the top of my head would have to be:

  • “Don’t Let Her” – Walker Hayes
  • “I Wish Grandpas Never Died” – Riley Green
  • “Signed Sober You” – Hardy.

Front Porch: All great songs! We’ll have to add those to our Spotify playlists. Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with us, we can’t wait to hear what’s next for you.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
