Kendra Kay and Jason Benoit have teamed up to release a Christmas version of the classic hymn “How Great Thou Art”. And this isn’t your typical Christmas release.

It’s that time of year again … where all our favourite country artists put together amazing Christmas singles and albums in celebration of the holidays.

Rather than another cover of “Santa Baby” or “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas”, Manitoba’s rising star Kendra Kay mixed it up by releasing a version of “How Great Thou Art”.

Kendra Kay’s rendition of this classic hymn features Newfoundland native Jason Benoit’s vocals harmonizing with Kay’s and American singer-songwriter Jenee Fleenor on fiddle.

The Manitoba Country Music Association’s Female Artist of the Year’s powerful vocals bring the complexity of this classic out of your grandmother’s hymn book and into the ears of country music listeners, blended beautifully with Benoit’s tenor.

One more song to add to this year’s holiday playlist. We’ll definitely be keeping an ear out for these two in 2022!

Kay had participated in junior choir, taken singing lessons, and enjoyed singing when growing up.

Her parents loaded her up and travelled to Nashville where she would record a demo so she could enter a singing contest. Inspired by everything music city had to offer, that trip to Nashville changed everything for her.

Growing up, I was an avid country music hater. Dean Brody won me over in my 20s and my enjoyment of the genre has steadily increased since then, especially after moving to Alberta. I'm a lover of music, explorer of new places, asker of questions, admirer of nature, and socializer extraordinaire.
