Mike Robins Debut Solo Single “Lightning Don’t Strike Twice”

Mike Robins debut single "Lightning Don't Strike Twice"

Canadian country artist Mike Robins is here with his debut solo release, “Lightning Don’t Strike Twice”.

I was able to catch up with Mike Robins a couple weeks ago to talk about “Lightning Don’t Strike Twice” and his debut as a solo artist. Performing solo has always been a dream for Mike, and he’s so excited to share himself as an individual act with fans of country music.

LDST was inspired by the curve ball he and his fiancee, along with many couples, have been thrown. They were supposed to get married this summer, and unfortunately have had to postpone to 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic.

The goal was to bring some positive light to the situation, and create something meaningful from it. Thus ensued a love song.

Lightning doesn’t strike twice, and that’s the sentiment with this single. Love can hit you out of nowhere, or be with you throughout your life, but that one person only comes around- well, once. Hence, “Lightning Don’t Strike Twice”.

This naturally became his debut single, given what’s going on in the world right now and how listeners can derive meaning from the lyrics and story, no matter what they’re experiencing right now.

“Lucky for me when it rained it poured, this girl’s love is like the perfect storm. She’s got me feeling the thunder, she don’t gotta wonder, ‘cause there won’t be another. ‘Lightning don’t strike twice’.”

We can all connect to the story in one way or another; whether your wedding has been postponed, you’ve just gotten out of a relationship with someone who just wasn’t the one, or you’re falling head over heels.

What’s great about country music artists, is the genre really gives performers and songwriters the space to tell a story. For Robins, he puts out music that’s true to him, that he can relate to, and that he feels connected to. You have to connect to a song in order to bring it to life on stage and give people a genuine performance.

Influenced by his career thus far as half of the duo Autumn Hill, and the front man for East Adelaide, Robins has been able to develop himself as an individual act and is so excited to finally share this with listeners.

He’s done a lot of songwriting throughout his career, he loves country music, and defines himself as a country artist. While there’s a natural growth process that’s reflected in his sound,

“Lightning Don’t Strike Twice”, and his sound as a solo artist is along the vein of what it’s always sounded like. He did a lot of writing in his previous endeavours, so it’s natural for his current sound to be familiar to listeners. This truly is the next phase of the process, and shows the progression of his sound and storytelling over the years.

We’re so excited at the Front Porch to have new music from Mike Robins and can’t wait to see what the rest of 2020 and 2021 has in store for him.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
