It’s a big week for Canadian country singer-songwriter Jessica Mitchell. Her incredible single “Workin’ on Whiskey” has been recorded by country music legend Trisha Yearwood, and released to country radio.
Last week, country music icon Trisha Yearwood released a new song to radio called “Workin’ on Whiskey” with Kelly Clarkson singing the Background vocals. What you may not know, is who wrote and originally recorded the song. Jessica Mitchell is one of the top singers and lyricists in the Canadian music landscape.
In 2016, Mitchell released this song to Canadian country radio and was the top added song to radio at the time of release. This song really resonated with audiences. When she performed it at the 2016 CMA Ontario awards, she was met with an overwhelming standing ovation.
Described as an “intensely dramatic” song by Rolling Stone Magazine, Trisha Yearwood’s version of the song brings a depth that really elevates the meaning of the song, and compliments the subject matter beautifully.
The opening track from Yearwood’s upcoming Every Girl album, “Workin’ on Whiskey” was written by Jessica Mitchell, Dave Thomson and Patricia Conroy, and produced by Garth Fundis. Clarkson providing richly textured harmony vocals for the torchy track — all about the loss of a love so strong it’s impossible to settle for anything less. With Yearwood’s soaring, crystal-clear vocals full of soul and backed by a weeping steel guitar, it’s an epic emotional standout delivered by two of the best.
Listen to “Workin’ on Whiskey”
In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
