Everyone’s favourite Canadian country/rock artist Dallas Smith has released a new single to country radio called “Make ‘Em Like You”. It’s a pretty chill song that is a great follow-up to “One Drink Ago“.

This single stays very true to Dallas’ typical style. His voice and melodies are unmistakable and impossible to miss. The song starts with a sound reminiscent of a church choir singing, which sets the tone for the rest of the song. The backup singers almost echo what you’re feeling when you listen to this song – you know, the song is so chill that you just can’t help but almost go “mmm hmm” along with the backup singers. All that’s missing is an “AMEN” in there.

We wouldn’t call this your typical Summer song, but it’s unexpectedly Summery the longer you listen to it. It’s not one of those Summer songs to get you in the party mood. It’s more of a chill song that gets you in the mood to relax! You can just imagine laying on one of those floating flamingos with your shades on, and a drink in hand.

If you’re a fan of Dallas Smith, then you’re definitely going to be a fan of “Make ‘Em Like You”. We love Dallas, so we’re obviously huge fans of the song already. That being said, it would be nice to hear something a little different from Dallas. His last few singles have all had very similar sounds – not that it’s a bad thing! Just an observation we were talking about here on the porch. Like we said, he’s great and puts on one hell of a live show, so there’s no shade coming from us!

Lyrics to “Make ‘Em Like You” by Dallas Smith

Got the style and the class and your foot on the gas
Of the ’57 Chevy that I saw your grandaddy
On a Sunday morning in a black and white picture
Baptized by the river, wishing he was here ’cause…They don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
You’re so small town pretty, it’s a dog-gone pity
What’s all them other boys gonna do?
‘Cause you’re one of a kind, make you stop on a dime
Yeah you’re sexy, you’re classy, you’re cool
No, they don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like youI’m talking slicker than cash, coming out of the dash
Watch ’em stare when they pass, yeah their neck’s breaking
You know I can’t blame ’em with the top down singing
You got everybody thinking she’s a ring of fire ringing’Cause they don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
You’re so small town pretty, it’s a dog-gone pity
What’s all them other boys gonna do?
‘Cause you’re one of a kind, make you stop on a dime
Yeah you’re sexy, you’re classy, you’re cool
No, they don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like youFront porch swinging
Home made ice cream
And got the preacher man preaching
Whole church out singing

‘Cause they don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
You’re so small town pretty, it’s a dog-gone pity
What’s all them other boys gonna do?
‘Cause you’re one of a kind, make you stop on a dime
Yeah you’re sexy, you’re classy, you’re cool
No, they don’t make ’em like that anymore
Anymore, they don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like you
They don’t make ’em like you

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
