Canadian country artist Madeline Merlo has officially released a new music video for her latest single “It Didn’t”, and it’s a bop!
Earlier this year, Madeline Merlo released a trio of songs, including “It Didn’t”. The three-part release tells the breakup story and the turmoil of emotions one goes through during the process. “It Didn’t” is part of that recovery … learning from the experience, and coming back strong. The power track is relatable, and exactly what you should be adding to your breakup bounce back playlist.
“These three songs complete the heartbreak circle story I’m trying to tell,” says Merlo. “They are products of my journey over these last couple years writing songs, losing love and learning about life here in Nashville. I think they are examples of the multitude of emotions you experience going through heartbreak and ending up on the other side: from reckless behaviour, to perspective shifts, to closure.”
Merlo shares that “It Didn’t” came out of her own experience.
“‘It Didn’t,’” Merlo continues, “is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written. It’s about feeling the light at the end of the tunnel after a difficult time. It touches on my battle with depression and overcoming a tumultuous breakup. It was so exciting to have horns and play with new sounds sonically for this anthem. I wanted to make music that inspired me.”
The music video for this song is a lot of fun to watch! It adds such an interesting dynamic to the song. Watch the music video right here:

Lyrics To By Madeline Merlo’s Latest Song
I spent 3 days crying tears on my momma’s couch
I ordered cheap Chinese so I didn’t have to leave the house
I bought some cigarettes and a new dress
The kinda things that you do when you’re low
But a little time, and a little wine
And you know that I’m good to go
Like
Ooh, you know this girl’s been feeling brand new
I traded up for a penthouse view
Even when that shit breaks your heart
Pop that champagne at your pity party
Hey I got more fight than you might think
So I’ma pour me a drink
It was what it was now it isn’t
I thought it would kill me but, it didn’t
It was the end of world till the sun came up again
I was run-in out of breath till I caught that second wind
I found a good vibe, I hit the reset
I got a new song, stuck in my head
Like
Ooh, you know this girl’s been feeling brand new
I traded up for a penthouse view
Even when that shit breaks your heart
Pop that champagne at your pity party
Hey I got more fight than you might think
So I’ma pour me a drink
It was what it was now it isn’t
I thought it would kill me but, it didn’t
No, it didn’t
I kissed a new guy, got a little high
The kind of things that you do when you’re low
But a little time
And I’m good to go
Ooh, you know this girl’s been feeling brand new
I traded up for a penthouse view
Even when that shit breaks your heart
Pop that champagne at your pity party
Hey I got more fight than you might think
So I’ma pour me a drink
It was what it was now it isn’t
I thought it would kill me but, it didn’t
No, no
It didn’t
It didn’t
