We had the chance to sit down with CCMA Discovery Award winner Kalsey Kulyk to talk about music, and her new single “More Time”.
“More Time” by Kalsey Kulyk is a great acoustic song that’s jam-packed full of emotion. It’s a song about really living – just making the most out of every single day. It’s a song that came from a really emotional conversation with her grandfather.
““More Time” is a true story song about my grandpa calling me to tell me he wished he had more time to spend with me.” Kalsey explains, “he was battling cancer and the doctors gave him 3 months to live. It was a really emotional conversation and I had to get it out on paper.”
The acoustic nature of the song really forces you to listen to her beautiful voice, and truly focus on the message of the song. The song is actually a little reminiscent of “Tin Man” by Miranda Lambert – a simple powerhouse. Kalsey easily has one of the most refreshing voices in country music that we’ve heard in a very long time.
The last couple of years have been a wild ride for Kalsey Kulyk. She won both the CCMA Discovery Artist program, as well as the Ole Majorly Indie “On The Spot” competition. “It’s been quite the whirlwind and I’m so grateful for it.” Kulyk explains, “I’ve really been busy down in Nashville writing, recording, playing and getting ready to release the new singles!
In Nashville, she has been writing with some of the biggest names in country music such as Liz Rose (Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood) and Phil Barton (Lee Brice, Eli Young Band). Together they have been working on writing together for her upcoming EP. We asked her about her inspiration, and what gets her in the mood to write:
I’ve definitely been really grateful to get into the writing room with some pretty amazing writers! And for me it all depends on the room and the time on how inspiration comes about. Sometimes I have a title idea, sometimes I had a chord pattern or sometimes I have a story. It just depends on what strikes that day!
Kalsey’s EP is scheduled for a release later this Summer, and if “More Time” is any indication, the EP is going to be a true work of art. She wasn’t able to share with us the name of the EP just yet, but she was able to give us a little teaser of what it will be like:
We’re narrowing down the title of the EP as we speak and I’m so excited! This EP is definitely all about the emotions. It was made to hit the listeners right in the heart while inspiring them at the same time. It’s very true to me and my life. I can’t wait to share!
