This Nashville based Canadian artist is pulling at my heart strings with her latest catchy tune “Goin’ Broke.”
Mallory is seriously telling it like it is with the truthful lyrics in this song. Bringing her own unique style, Johnson talks about how she’s going broke trying to look rich, and with prices being so high these days, this song is relatable for all of us!
Mallory has a soft and soothing voice that’s comparable to Lainey Wilson but with a little less southern twang and a little more Canadian sweetness.
I’m also loving the western-y vibe of the melody in this one!
This single was written with fellow Canadian singer-songwriter Carolyn Dawn Johnson, who has worked with big country names including Jo Dee Messina, Reba McEntire, and Martina McBride.
“’Goin’ Broke’ was originally inspired by the common misconception that you save money by buying things on sale. We all know that’s false because you either buy more to get the deal or you buy cheap and then have to buy more in the end anyway. As someone who loves to shop and follow fashion trends (even if it’s a dupe or a knock-off) my bank account sometimes gives me disapproving looks,” Johnson shares.
“To expand a little on Dolly’s famous quote ‘it costs a lot to look this cheap,’ it also costs a lot to look rich. Fake it til you make it, right? Carolyn Dawn Johnson and I had quite a few laughs writing this one and I’m so thrilled to have her beautiful vocals make an appearance on this song.”
