Stratford, Ontario singer/songwriter Callie McCullough embraces her Celtic roots with her latest single “Great Big Sky.”

This song captures the essence of a wanderer’s soul, delving deep into the complexities of existence.

Produced by Grammy-nominated Dave Brainard, the song blends McCullough’s lyrical vulnerability with expansive soundscapes reminiscent of Mumford and Sons and Lord Huron, marking a bold new chapter in her musical journey.

A Journey Through Sound and Emotion

“Great Big Sky” is a testament to McCullough’s ability to weave her personal experiences and reflections into her music.

“I’m a traveller at heart, and maybe that’s because when I’m standing still, all the questions come rushing in,” says McCullough. “There are so many beautiful places and things in this world, and at the same time so much tragedy. It’s all a bit of mystery to me and that’s the magical experience of being human.”

This single is the third collaboration between McCullough and Brainard, following the acclaimed releases “What If I Don’t” and “All That I Want,” which gained radio airplay across Canada, the U.S., and the UK. Brainard’s production elevates “Great Big Sky” to new heights, perfectly complementing McCullough’s angelic voice and introspective lyrics.

A Modern Muse with Timeless Inspiration

Callie McCullough’s music is a unique blend of contemporary roots, traditional country, Celtic, bluegrass, and folk influences.

Her sound is anchored in honest storytelling, with a vocal tone that has been compared to Alison Krauss and Dolly Parton. Her debut album, After Midnight (2020), featured top-tier musicians from the GRAMMY-winning bluegrass band Union Station and western-swing super-group The Time Jumpers.

The album earned her a Canadian Country Music Association nomination for Alternative Country Album of the Year and three CMAO nominations for Roots Artist of the Year, Rising Star, and Songwriters of the Year.

Crafting a New Sound with Dave Brainard

Teaming up with Grammy-nominated producer Dave Brainard has allowed McCullough to explore new facets of her artistry. Brainard, known for his work with Brandy Clark and Jamey Johnson, has helped McCullough craft a sound that combines grassy textures, soaring melodies, loose grooves, and catchy hooks.

This partnership has resulted in a musical tapestry that captures the nostalgia of classic roots music while incorporating McCullough’s contemporary twists and sharp songwriting.
