An Exclusive Chat with Dave Faber: From Faber Drive to Solo Country Artist

I had the chance to sit down with Dave Faber to talk about his latest solo venture into country music, his new song “Lookin For You”, and the journey that led him to this exciting chapter of his career.

“Lookin For You” – A Love Letter in Song Form

Dave’s latest single, “Lookin For You”, is out now, and it’s a song that carries a deeply personal meaning. Written alongside Michael August and Landon Wall in Nashville, the track is a tribute to his wife and their love story.

“I was just talking about my wife. I think it was close to my anniversary or something, and I was just talking about how I love my wife and appreciate her. We’ve been married for a long time, and so basically the song is about her and written kind of towards her. If I hadn’t found her, I’d still be looking for her,” Dave shared.

The songwriting process was a natural flow, inspired by stories of their relationship, including their first date watching fireworks in Vancouver. “Michael is one of my favourite writers right now. He’s so good, so fast, great melodies, great ideas,” Dave added.

Going Solo: A Natural Evolution

For fans of Faber Drive, Dave’s transition into country might feel like a big shift, but for him, it was something that made perfect sense.

“I still have my band, Faber Drive, but I just felt like it was a little confusing for our fans. Faber Drive is punk rock, and I didn’t want people wondering why we were suddenly going country. I’ve loved country for a long time. I co-wrote Tyler Joe Miller’s “Fighting”, I’ve written with Chris Buck, and I’ve been going to Nashville a lot. It just felt like the right time to make the split.”

Dave reassured that there’s no bad blood with his bandmates—it’s just part of the natural ebb and flow of the industry.

Despite being known for pop-punk, Dave’s love for country music runs deep. “The first country artist my dad showed me was Johnny Cash. I must’ve been seven or eight, listening to Folsom Prison Blues on a record in our living room, and I instantly loved it. Then, working with Joey Moi and Chad Kroeger, I got into Rascal Flatts and artists like Joe Nichols. I’ve always loved the songwriting in country music.”

With his solo project, Dave is embracing this love for country music and making it his own. “For me personally, I don’t feel like this is a switch—it’s just another side of my musical journey.”

What’s Next for Dave Faber?

As Dave forges ahead with his solo career, he’s excited for what’s to come. And when I mentioned how cool it would be to hear a Faber Drive x Stereos country collab, he laughed, “That’d be crazy.”

With Looking For You already making waves, and more music on the horizon, it’s safe to say that Dave Faber’s country chapter is just getting started.

Be sure to check out “Lookin For You” and follow Dave as he continues his journey into country music!
