Toronto’s music scene is about to get a whole lot bigger.
Live Nation Canada has announced plans to construct Rogers Stadium, a colossal new outdoor concert venue set to open its gates in the summer of 2025. With a staggering capacity of 50,000, this seasonal venue is poised to become the largest purpose-built music stadium in the country.

A New Landmark on the Horizon
Located at the former Downsview Airport Lands, now known as YZD, Rogers Stadium will transform a piece of Toronto’s industrial history into a cutting-edge entertainment destination. The venue will be situated on a 44-acre plot, taking advantage of the area’s excellent transportation links to the rest of the Greater Toronto Area.
“In a global touring market, artists have a lot of choices, and we need to make sure we’re not missing out on anything in Toronto,” said Erik Hoffman, Live Nation Canada’s president overseeing music. This new venue is clearly a move to cement Toronto’s status as a “must-play market” for the biggest names in music.
More Than Just a Stadium
Rogers Stadium isn’t just about size. The venue will feature seating for 30,000 fans, with room for an additional 20,000 in standing areas. Its unique three-quarter stadium design will include a removable standard stage, allowing major artists to bring in their own custom staging setups.
While the stadium is expected to host 12 to 15 performances annually, it won’t be competing directly with established downtown venues like the Rogers Centre or Budweiser Stage. Instead, it’s designed to complement Toronto’s existing music infrastructure, potentially attracting artists who might otherwise skip the city due to venue limitations.
A Temporary Treasure
Interestingly, Rogers Stadium is planned as a temporary structure.
The site is part of a larger redevelopment plan by Northcrest Developments, which aims to transform the area into residential housing over the coming decades. This limited lifespan adds a sense of urgency and excitement to the project – music fans will want to experience this unique venue while they can.
Looking Ahead
While no performers have been announced yet, the anticipation is already building.
With its massive capacity and state-of-the-art design, Rogers Stadium is set to host some of the biggest names in music, potentially rivaling the multi-night residencies seen at other major stadiums.
As Toronto continues to grow as a global city, Rogers Stadium represents a bold investment in its cultural future. For music lovers across the GTA and beyond, summer 2025 can’t come soon enough.
