Canadian Country Artist Shane Yellowbird Dead At Age 42

Shane Yellowbird Death

It’s a sad day in Canadian country music. There are reports that Cree-Canadian Country artist Shane Yellowbird has passed away suddenly at the age of 42.

The cause of death has not been released as of yet, but his brother ShyShy Yellowbird confirmed his death on Facebook April 26, 2022.

”My big brother Shane inspired me to sing and draw,” he said on Facebook. “Both of us were fortunate to be raised by our kokum Sheila, we both call her our mom. I remember he told me that when he went to high school in Ponoka he didn’t do any assignments in Art class and still passed with 100 percent”. At the end of the post, he added,” I’ll always love and miss you brother.. Fly High”.

His fiancee posted to his Facebook page a message of love: “Baby I’m lost and broken, you were my missing other half. I can’t believe I won’t wake up in your arms this morning, laugh with you today, or dance with you another night. Rest in peace ❤️

The two reportedly just got engaged this past weekend.

Shane, a Cree-Canadian from Hobbema, Alberta, first made a splash on the Canadian Country scene in 2006 with the release of his debut album Life is Calling My Name, which was an immediate success, leading him to win many awards including the Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Award for Single of the Year for his song “Beautiful Concept”, as well as the 2007 Chevy Trucks Rising Star of the Year CCMA Award.

The album was also nominated for a JUNO Award for Country Recording of the Year in 2008.

In 2007, he was chosen to represent Canada on the international stage by performing at the Fourth Annual Global Artist Party at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville.

The third single from his debut album, “Pickup Truck”, became one of the top 10 most played country music songs of the year in 2007, and became his first top 10 hits.

Scott has been a lover of music his whole life, but being born and raised in small town Ontario helped solidify his love of Country music specifically. Drawn to the musicality and storytelling of Country Music, one of his passions is spreading the word about all the great talent Canada has to offer in this genre. Scott has an extending performing career, having acted in many theatre productions, sketch comedy, music videos and TV, and has hosted multiple global corporation seminars and awards ceremonies.  While he is a classically trained pianist, he leaves music to the professionals, and basks in all their musical glory!  A day without music is a waste of day, he believes, and can usually be found cranking some of his favourite Canadian artists like James Barker Band, Madeline Merlo, and Brett Kissel, and artists like Kip Moore and Ashley McBryde from south of the border on a daily basis.
