Manitoba country artist Leanne Pearson has released a music video with American Sign Language (ASL) for her 2020 heartfelt single, “Miles Away“.
Opening her heart to listeners, Pearson shares the difficulty of long-distance relationships, and being away from loved ones in “Miles Away”. Connecting with a feeling many are faced with this year, Pearson instills a sense of community with listeners. The song serves as a true reminder, that while we are facing difficult challenges, no one is alone in their struggle.
“I want to spread positivity and love during this challenging time, and ‘Miles Away’ was a perfect way to do that.”
Why does the ASL video release of “Miles Away” hold so much value to Pearson? Her two favourite people in the world were her grandmas, of which one was blind, and one was deaf.
“One of them never got the chance to see me play live, but she could hear me, while the other couldn’t hear me, but could see me jumping around the stage and having fun.”
The ASL video allowed not only for Pearson to deepen the personal connection to the track, but also deliver to an audience who don’t always have the opportunity to watch music performed in their native language of ASL.
