The new Canadian country band East Adelaide have released their first single “You Don’t Get To Love Me” to radio and streaming services. This single is the perfect mix between country and rock, and features a melody that will be sure to stick in your head.
When you hear the song, you might be thinking that you’ve heard that voice before. Well, that’e because we have! Mike Robins takes lead vocals on this single. A few years ago, Mike Robins was part of the country duo Autumn Hill, who had hits such as “Fire”, “Mix Tape”, and “Blame”. East Adelaide is Mike’s latest project since the announced hiatus of Autumn Hill back in 2016.
East Adelaide consists of lead singer Mike Robins, drummer Andrew Mackay, and bassist Randie Van Gorp. The band came together quite organically:
When Autumn Hill, Mike Robins and Tareya Green’s JUNO and Canadian Country Music Association award nominated group, went on hiatus in 2016, Robins wasn’t sure what to do next. The guitarist and singer-songwriter considered embarking on a solo career but couldn’t shake the feeling of wanting a band. And then he got a phone call – bassist Randie Van Gorp and former Autumn Hill drummer Andrew Mackay are childhood friends and have played with the likes of Fefe Dobson and Shawn Desman. Like Robins, they both were in between projects and looking to start a new band. They got in touch with Robins and East Adelaide was born.
When you really listen to the lyrics of their debut single “You Don’t Get To Love Me”, you get the sense that there is some serious heartbreak and feeling to the song. The theme of ending an affair can’t get much country-er! But who can’t relate to the tragic nature of the song?
