Twenty-two years old, two JUNO Awards, and a sold-out show in front of 2,700 people in Boston. Cameron Whitcomb is not slowing down.
Deep Water, his new five-track EP via Atlantic Outpost, lands right in the middle of what is already shaping up to be his biggest year yet. And it sounds like it.
This One Feels Different
Whitcomb said it himself: “I think people are really gonna hear how much I’ve fallen back in love with songwriting.”
You can hear it. Deep Water is a mix of tender love songs and the kind of honesty that made The Hard Way connect so hard with so many people. It does not feel like a victory lap. It feels like someone with a lot to say who finally has the platform to say it.
“Kingdom of Fear” Is Already His Biggest Song
If you have not heard it yet, that’s your homework.
Billboard called it an emotionally charged folk-rock track built on raw, gritty vocals and a fervent guitar. And the charts backed that up fast. “Kingdom of Fear” is now his highest-charting single ever in the US, Australia, the UK, and Canada. It also marked his second consecutive instant debut on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100. For a kid from Nanaimo, BC, that’s not a small thing.
“You and Me” Is the Other Side of That Coin
Not every song on Deep Water runs hot. “You and Me” is the EP’s quiet anchor, a soft stomp-clap folk-rock track that Billboard described as heartfelt and weathered. It also debuted immediately on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100 when it dropped last month.
Two very different songs. Both landing.
The Title Track Now Has a Live Video Worth Watching
The “Deep Water” live performance video was filmed at Boston’s Citizens House of Blues, where Whitcomb played to a sold-out crowd of more than 2,700 fans. The biggest solo headline show of his career. If you want to understand why his tours keep selling out, this video is a good place to start.

He’s Everywhere Right Now
Between the two JUNOs (including Country Album of the Year for The Hard Way), the viral backflip at the JUNO ceremony, a fully sold-out Australia and New Zealand headline run, and the Fragile Egos Tour still going strong, Whitcomb is in a moment.
Deep Water gives that moment a soundtrack.
In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
