Who is Owen Barney? A Boots & Hearts Artist Profile

Owen Barney's single "Letting Go"

Our Boots & Hearts Artist Profile series aims to introduce you to some of the great Canadian talent who are playing at this year’s Boots & Hearts Music Festival. We would like to introduce you to the incredibly talented Owen Barney.

We don’t often come across a great country artist from the big city of Toronto. The city music scene often nurtures other genres of music. But that didn’t stop Owen Barney from pursuing a career in country. He has been playing the guitar since he was just 7 years old (the guitar must have been the same size as him!). He has been influenced by country heavy-hitters such as: Eric Church, Dean Brody, and Jason Aldean.

Since the age of 14, he has been playing shows across Toronto, and has spent the last few years perfecting his craft as a performer. “What I’ve always hoped for myself is to someday be performing to a crowd that knows every word of my songs,” says Barney. With over a million streams on Spotify, His debut single “Letting Go” has captured the attention of country fans across Canada.

This young artist has a voice and talent that is beyond his years. He has a depth to his voice that many artists work at achieving for a long time – it seems to come natural to Owen.

In August of 2019, Owen Barney released an EP titled Diamonds & Dust. It features 4 songs that showcase his unmistakable talent. His single “Sounds of Home” is definitely one of the highlights on the EP.

We are so looking forward to getting the chance to see Owen and catch up with him at Boots & Hearts this year. We’ll be speaking to him at the festival, and can’t wait to share an interview with hm. He will be playing on Sunday August 11th, 2019.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
