I’ve had the pleasure of getting acquainted with up and coming country music artist, Robyn Ottolini, and I’m very excited to introduce her to the Front Porch.
After singing me a few lines from her teenage songbook, and learning a little bit about Robyn, you can expect a down to earth, open and honest, small town Canadian girl, who is charming and unapologetically herself.
You may be familiar with Robyn from her activity on social media, specifically, Tik Tok. In early February, Robyn joined the world of Tik Tok, where her single “Good Shit” went viral. Shortly after, she shared her follow up single, “F-150“, and it blew up. She’s released a couple EP’s over the last three years, with singles garnering attention and being added to many shared playlists.

Capturing the attention of listeners across North America, Robyn Ottolini resonates with listeners through her own life experiences; telling relatable stories through witty lyrics (sometimes in the form of diss tracks).
The Uxbridge, Ontario native began songwriting at the age of twelve … she wanted to tell stories, but not write books. When Kacey Musgraves made her way to the country music scene, she opened a door for artists like Robyn, who didn’t define their sound with loud powerhouse vocals, but as storytelling songbirds, leading with strong acoustics and carefully-crafted lyrics.
Ottolini describes herself as talkative or conversational in the way she delivers her lyrics, and that wasn’t really prevalent in country, until the likes of Kacey Musgraves and Sam Hunt became popular.
Ottolini is feeling absolutely grateful, especially given the state of the world right now. She’s been able to focus on making music, with the pandemic giving her time to write and record and connect with new audiences through social media.
The artist has been working on her sound over the last few years. She’s always written what she wants, how she feels, and been open with listeners. “F-150” earned space in the charts as a comeback breakup song, with a catch. Ottolini’s honesty captured the attention of listeners across North America.

The up and coming artist shared some pretty big news earlier in October … she’s officially signed with Warner Music Nashville. When I asked her about this, she said it’s surreal. It’s something you want to happen and when it finally does you can’t even wrap your head around it. She’s most excited about writing music with some of her idols, eventually getting down to Nashville to write and record, and of course, putting out a music video.
2020 has been quite the year to say the least. She’s checked off nearly every one of her five year goals … and this is just the beginning.
Her advice for young people, singer/songwriters or otherwise: “Find yourself, know yourself, and love yourself. Carve your own path. Every other one is taken.”

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
