For the latest installment of the quarantine series, I was able to catch up with Canadian country artist Kris Barclay.
Kris’ New Single “360” Debuted In Late July 2020
I asked Kris about “360”. The song was actually delayed; a battle many artists are fighting with the pandemic. “360” was supposed to be released three months ago. Now that it’s out, he couldn’t be happier. When I asked where the idea came from, he shared that one of his co-writers pitched the idea- what’s better than a 10/10, is someone who’s got it all. That’s 360, not just good-looking, not just a party, and not just a good human, but all of it.
The song has been great for lightening the vibe considering we’re living in a pandemic.
We appreciate artists putting out tracks about hope and staying together, but “360” lets us escape the turmoil of COVID-19 for two and a half minutes. Barclay says he really wanted the tone of this single to be reflective of the vibe in the writing room the day that it came to be.

What Kris Barclay Has Been Up To Over The Last Six Months
Barclay spent the beginning of lockdown the way many of us did …
Carefully following health guidelines. Taking only necessary trips, and admittedly playing a lot of video games. With limitations lifting, he was able to get out on the golf course often.
He spent much of his summer on the ice with the 3 Zones Hockey School, in Whitby Ontario. After training with 3 Zones in his minor and junior hockey years, Barclay traded in his equipment for a tracksuit, training athletes through weekly training camps.
Barclay says he’s also been able to show up more. Summers are hectic for artists travelling from outdoor stages to various festivals, so he’s typically a no-show to family gatherings and birthday celebrations throughout the summer.
He’s been grateful for the additional time with his family and being able to celebrate those milestones.
What is the Rucksack March for Remembrance?
Barclay is extremely passionate about supporting the many Canadians who have worn the Uniform and served for our country.
For him, it’s not about politics … it’s about the individuals who made a tremendous sacrifice and put their lives on the line for our country. Fuelled by his appreciation for his grandfather’s service and the extraordinary sacrifice made by many Canadians alongside him, Barclay is looking to do his part by organizing a fundraiser march.
On Saturday, September 19th, in support of Wounded Warriors Canada, Kris, along with other participants, will join in the Rucksack March for Remembrance. Barclay will carry 50 lbs on his back, and travel 10km, raising awareness for the mental health of Canadian Veterans.

What Advice Kris Barclay Has For Young Artists And People Pursuing Their Dreams
Success in the music industry is relative. For some people, it’s playing a pub at a patio … it takes a lot of guts. Getting out there is tough, and if you get out there, that’s successful. You’ve achieved your goal.
Set goals for yourself, and follow your dreams if that’s what you choose to do. You have to recognize the time it will take to get there, and set those smaller goals along the way.
Stop and smell the roses and appreciate the milestones … or you’ll always be in pursuit of something else.
Finally, be realistic and stay focused. Success is relative. Set your goals, and if you reach them you’re successful. Not everyone needs to sell out to be successful.
If you love what you’re doing and you’re happy with it, you’re succeeding.
What Are You Listening To Right Now?
Barclay’s friend and fellow Canadian musician, Meghan Patrick released a great new song, “My First Car”. He’s had that cranked all day. He’s also been listening to HARDY and Morgan Wallen. He’s also always listening to the local artists, like James Barker Band and Tebey.
What Kris Barclay Has Planned For The Rest Of 2020
As “360” continues to do well, Barclay looks forward to an opportunity to play some live music this year. That’s the one thing that’s really been missing. And as an entertainer, that’s been difficult for him. He looks forward to being able to connect with music lovers soon.
As for new music … he says there’s always new music coming, so until then, we’ll continue to enjoy “360”.
