The acoustic guitar in this single is so simple, yet powerful. It ads to the tone of the song, while allowing the harmonies, the lyrics, and the vocal talent to really shine and become the focal point of the song. The voices of Cara Luft and JD Edwards compliment one another so perfectly and blend to create a beautiful piece of art with this single. These two could sing the alphabet and turn it into a masterpiece!

Aside from the harmonies, the message of this song is what really stands out. It’s a modern day anthem which, according to Cara Luft: “[is] a song to roust us out of our complacency and our indifference, a song to challenge our era of divisiveness and polarization to remind us what ‘it’ is all about, and what it’s not…”

About The Small Glories

The Small Glories are a Canadian folk/roots duo from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Members Cara Luft and JD Edwards met completely by chance at an anniversary show at Winnipeg’s venerable West End Cultural Centre. From there they discovered their artistic compatibility and began writing and creating music.

The music from The Small Glories is welcoming in terms of subject. Filled with folk-pop melodies, and songs of love, loss, and environment, delivered with soaring, interwoven vocals on various combinations of stomping clawhammer banjo, guitar and harmonica.

Although a duo, these two perform almost as one voice. As the Winnipeg Free Press put it:

Can two singer-songwriters be better than one? Yes, emphatically, yes, if the two in question are Cara Luft and JD Edwards, playing and singing together as The Small Glories. It’s our loss they didn’t [join forces] sooner because Edwards and Luft are a folk-roots powerhouse… It’s magic.

Their latest album Assiniboine & The Red is a collection top notch Canadiana music. “I remember being very excited about this collection of songs and getting to record them at home in Winnipeg,” JD Edwards says. “I was so glad to hear that Gilles Fournier (bass) and Mark Mariash (percussion/drums) agreed to come back and record another album with us. Getting the band back together along with Neil Osborne at the helm had my mind thinking of how we were going to be taking these songs to places we had never dreamed of going.”

This Canadian roots duo is definitely one of the Canadian acts to keep your eyes (and ears) on. We can’t wait to see what comes next from these fantastic artists.

In country music, the Front Porch has long been a place of reflection. A place where you can look at the life you have inside that front door. A place where time almost seems to stand still, where you can get away. It’s also a place where you can go to observe the world as it passes by you. To think about your place out there beyond the driveway.
