The Best Thing takes you on a musical journey through life’s unpredictable twists and turns. From wanting to escape the difficulties of love, to raising a glass to the good old times … there’s something everyone can relate to with this EP.

Sacha is a really exciting artist, and one to watch. She is a pioneer. She has been a much needed voice on equal representation for young women of all creeds and colour to be embraced and included in the Canadian country landscape.

Interview With Canadian Country Artist Sacha
Front Porch Music: Hi Sacha! Thanks so much for joining us. We’re so excited to have you join us on the Front Porch. Why don’t you start by telling us a bit about yourself … where you’re from, how your musical journey started, etc.
Sacha: A pleasure to join you and thanks for having me. I live in the Durham region but grew up in the small town of Warkworth Ontario which is where I got a taste of country music and country living.
Music has always been a way of life from formative years. My parents were in a band and so I’ve had many influences musically growing up. I always knew music was going to be more than just something that was playing in our home as children, but that it would find a way to play inside my heart and lead to a day where I could be the one on the other side of the speaker. The music maker 🙂
Front Porch Music: The last time we connected was in 2018 at Boots & Hearts. So much has happened since then. But when you look back at that festival, what comes to mind? What was it like playing on one of Canada’s most iconic stages?
Sacha: Looking back at playing Boots and Hearts serves as a reminder that hard work and determination really pays off. I have always dreamed of playing at Boots and Hearts and for several years I was a volunteer at the festival paying my dues, serving others and wishing for a chance to showcase.
I had a great experience and the audience was very welcoming and receptive.
Front Porch Music: Congrats on the release of your new EP The Best Thing. It’s a collection of really great songs! Tell us about this EP. What was the recording process like?
Sacha: Thank you. I’m so excited about this release. It’s like a secret I just couldn’t keep to myself anymore! This has been a two year in the making process and a collaborative effort which includes Canada’s finest in terms of writers and my producer Dan Swinimer, and many others!
The fingerprints of so many are on this project all of which could not have turned out the way it has without their added touch.
Once we finalized the song selection we took 4-5 days straight and recorded my vocals day and night at Newcomb Studios in Cobourg.
Although the days were long, I’ve never had so much fun and the bonding process with the team in the studio made it an experience that I didn’t want to come to an end.
Front Porch Music: The Best Thing includes your latest single “Cheers”. Cheers is such a fun song that we’ve had on repeat all summer. What was it about this song that caught your attention?
Sacha: This song was brought to my attention actually by Dan.
I just remember getting on the phone with Dan and him saying “Sacha, this is your song”. He was basically saying this song speaks your language due to its celebratory, feel good, be free to express your unique self, kinda vibe.
The music video brings all of these values to life packed in just having a good ole time.
Front Porch Music: On a more serious note – there’s been some very overdue pressure for gender and race parity on radio stations, music festivals, and the country industry as a whole. We think this is such an important issue. (a) What are your thoughts here, and what would you like to see happen moving forward? And (b) how do you think we move from conversation to action so we actually start seeing a more diverse genre?
Sacha: I am optimistic about the shift that is occurring regarding the Canadian values being represented in the country music industry.
As Canadians, we pride ourselves on ethical values such as diversity and equality which is why I believe more space is becoming available for people who are under-represented to have a fair chance and contribute to the Canadian music industry.
I think we move forward from conversation to actual results by asking ourselves the tough questions, evaluating our values and abandoning small minded behaviours mapping out the big picture.
The big picture always includes many people, and people of every kind.
Front Porch Music: Right now, we’re all stuck at home trying to do our part to stop the spread of the Coronavirus. What have you been doing to pass the time?
Sacha: I have had my work cut out for me during this time. I’ve been overly occupied preparing for this album and music video release was like planning a big surprise party and you’re waiting for the moment you can jump out and say “Surprise” look what I’ve been planning … just for you!

- Tenille Townes “When I meet my Maker”
- Mickey Guyton “What are you gonna tell her” and
- “A Million Dreams” actually a song off The Greatest Showman Soundtrack which is highly inspirational as well.
