Led by founding member Dave Faber, Faber Drive emerged from a modest upbringing and evolved into a defining act in the pop-rock scene in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Dave Faber’s journey began with a drum set gifted by his father, leading to his early band days in grade school and eventually to Faber Drive.
Along the way, he tried everything from grunge to Christian pop punk before landing on the sound that would make Faber Drive a household name.

The Early Days: From Grunge to Christian Pop Punk
As a teenager, Dave Faber experimented with bands and genres, from grunge to Christian pop punk. He started his first band with Colin Friezen, which led to their band Seed, a Christian pop punk group that gained some traction with U.S. tours and even a record deal offer.
While Seed eventually disbanded, the experience fuelled Faber’s desire to pursue music professionally.
A pivotal moment came when Dave connected with renowned producer Joey Moi, known at the time for his work with Nickelback. Dropping off demo CDs at Joey’s house led to an invitation to record acoustic tracks, which opened doors to more opportunities.
Faber Drive’s lineup included dynamic talent: Raymond “Red Bull” on drums, guitarist Hinsley (introduced by Faber’s brother), and bass player Cricket, whom Faber discovered playing lead bass at an Easter service.
This lineup set the foundation for the band’s breakthrough album Seven Second Surgery, co-produced by Colin Friezen and Joey Moi. With following hit singles like “Get Up and Dance” and “By Your Side,” Faber Drive quickly garnered a loyal fanbase and climbed Canadian music charts.
“Life Out Here”: A New Chapter with Country Roots
While known for their pop-punk and rock roots, Dave Faber has always felt a deep connection to country. He attributes this to his upbringing in Mission, BC, where he grew up “shooting guns and fishing in creeks.” The new single, “Life Out Here”, co-written with Dave Thomson and Elyse Saunders, reflects this duality of rural life and present-day reflections in Chilliwack, where a slower pace of life inspired the song’s themes.
Faber notes that “Life Out Here” is “one part growing up in Mission and one part where I am now, in Chilliwack, where I can see a cornfield and sunrises.” “Life Out Here” was produced by Dan Botch and Garrett Ward (The Renaissance).
New Music & What’s Next for Faber Drive
Fans can look forward to new releases from Faber Drive’s upcoming EP, featuring six songs that will roll out through 2025.
Among the tracks is a heartfelt song called “Lookin’ For You,” written with Michael August and Landon Wall as a tribute to Dave’s wife. Faber reflects, “It’s about the butterfly effect. What if every time we were supposed to meet, we didn’t, until we did? I’d still be looking for her if I hadn’t found her.”
Looking Forward
For Dave Faber, songwriting has always been a long, rewarding journey. He believes in the 10,000-hour rule: “It takes a long time to wrap your head around songwriting.” Now, with a new EP on the way and singles set to release throughout the year, Faber Drive is poised for an exciting new chapter, blending the grit of country life with the energy that fans have come to love.
Stay tuned as Faber Drive continues to evolve, delivering music that speaks to the heart of their journey and resonates with fans around the world.
