After two years since her last release, emerging country star Hailey Benedict has returned with her newest single “Damn You July”, available everywhere now.
Co-written with fellow Canadian songwriters Rich Cloke and Elias James, “Damn You July” will have you wishing for a lost summer love.
“Damn You July” Marks First Single In Almost Two Years
The St. Albert, Alberta artist’s previous single, “Wanted You Too” earned Hailey Stingray Radio’s Trending Track, iHeart Radio’s Future Star and her first Top 30 radio single.
“Damn You July”, believe it or not, was written in the cold of December. Co-writer Rich Cloke had the title, and Hailey recalls the song coming together so easily.
“I think it was Rich that had the title, and everything came together really quickly,” says Hailey.
On the track, she says, “It’s about dealing with the feelings of resentment after a breakup and how that person is still attached to the memories. The person is gone but those memories stay.”

“Damn You July” reflects a period of maturity, lyrically and musically, for the twenty-one year old singer-songwriter. It’s a little different from previous releases.
“I have also been inspired by some ’90s country lately, so I enjoyed exploring and bringing some of those classic sonic elements into this song. It’s unlike anything I’ve released before, and although that can be a bit daunting, it makes me even more excited to showcase this new era of my music,” says Hailey.
“Damn You July” made its debut as Hailey Benedict’s song choice for SiriusXM’s Top Of The Country competition, where she is now one of three semi-finalists chosen to play at CMA Fest and LASSO Music Festival, with the grand finale of the competition being held at the 2023 CCMA Country Music Week in September.
